Public Art & Commissions

Although she produced temporary murals in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1930s and 1940s, Falkenstein became especially renowned beginning in the 1960s for her large-scale public artworks and architectural commissions, including gates, doors, windows, fountains, and monumental sculptures. These projects afforded her the opportunity and resources to expand her investigations of space, movement, and material on an unprecedented scale.
