Claire Falkenstein’s papers are held at the Archives of American Art in Washington, D.C., a part of the Smithsonian Institution. Measuring 42.8 linear feet, the archive documents Falkenstein’s life and work from 1917 to her death in 1997. The papers include extensive correspondence with fellow artists, collectors, critics, friends, museums, and galleries. The collection also contains biographical materials, much of which was collected and organized by Falkenstein; personal and business records; writings; diaries; exhibition, commission, and teaching files; photographs; original artwork; scrapbooks; and printed materials.
